All the dogs available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested and treated for parasites and/or other medical conditions while in foster care in Arkansas and are issued a veterinary health certificate before coming to Canada. More information is available on the FAQs page.

Please read about our adoption process and submit an application if you are interested in one of these dogs. Unfortunately time constraints make it impossible to respond to all inquiries and only applicants who appear to be a good match for one of the dogs will be contacted.

Guinness

This charming little fellow was stuck in the high kill pound with almost no chance of survival but for rescue because he had heartworm. Heartworm is a common parasite in the south and can be successfully treated but few people looking to adopt from the shelter are willing to pay the cost of treatment over and above an adoption fee. Mosaic Rescue has saved many dogs with heartworm and provided the medical treatment they needed to live long healthy lives. Click here for more information on heartworm.

Guinness is undergoing heartworm treatment while in foster care in the south. He will receive a health certificate and be ready to travel to B.C. in late August.

Unlike many "mosaics" who keep us guessing about their genetic make up it is pretty clear that Guinness is all dachshund. He's a little guy at 13 lbs and is thought to be 4 to 5 years old.

Guinness is "Mr. Personality" and very much a big dog in a little dog's body. Here's what his southern foster mom has to say about him:

"Guinness is a sweet boy and a super easy foster.

The word I use most often to describe him is "busy"!
He's always patrolling the backyard to see what is new...leading with his nose.
His barking is not obnoxious but he WILL make a good burglar alarm.
He is hilarious during thunderstorms because he barks at each clap of thunder. He is not timid or afraid AT ALL.
In fact, I think the National Weather Service should pay him a retainer because he lets me know a storm is coming even before I hear the first rumblings.

He'll make a good lap dog or couch buddy until he decides its time to get busy and go on patrol again.
He crates easily and sleeps through the night without a sound.

His favorite "toy" is a small rawhide bone. It has to be the perfect size so he can hold it between his small front paws."

Guinness has been in foster homes with other dogs and cats and done fine with them. He loves people the most though and is a real cuddle bug. He'll do best in a home where he can hang out with his human(s) most of the time.

Guinness' southern foster mom has had to travel on business a few times this summer and others have taken him temporarily. Everyone has fallen in love with this little guy and found it hard to give him back. He's also been given a new nickname, Super G because of his ability to leap onto couches in a single bound.

Update: Guinness has now arrived in BC and is in foster care here. While Guinness might have been full of beans and "busy" in the south he's been amazingly calm and reserved here. Maybe it's the walks he's been able to enjoy here (dog walking in temperatures over 100 degrees F isn't very feasible) or maybe he's just tired of all the travel getting here. He is as sweet as described though and is a real cuddle bug. He's happiest curled up in a lap but settles well in a crate or on a dog bed.

Guinness has an adoption pending.

Lexy

Lexy is a sweet little girl who found herself in the Arkansas high kill pound, a place where even dogs like her get put down if space is short. We were able to get her out of there and safely into foster care in the south.

Lexy is thought to be a spaniel/beagle mix, about 4 years old and 16 lbs. When assessed at the shelter Lexy was one who played with other dogs always with one eye on the human and ready to run at full speed when called. She's definitely a people dog and is very loving and affectionate once she gets to know you. At first meeting she can be a bit timid especially with men but gets over that pretty quickly.

Lexy has gotten along well with the other dogs and cats in her foster home though she does make sure that the cats don't get the place of honour close to her foster mom. She also makes sure that no harm comes to the four month old grandchild in the home and is very gentle with him.

This playful happy girl loves to cuddle and sleep under the covers though she's comfortable in her crate as well. She'll be a wonderful loyal companion and family member.

Lexy has arrived in BC and gone into foster care. She's just as sweet as her southern foster mom said.

Lexy has an adoption pending.

CeCe

CeCe has been through what many would describe as "the wringer". She arrived at the high kill pound as a pregnant stray along with a dog thought to be her daughter. To make matters worse she was heartworm positive (click here for information on heartworm) and then came down with kennel cough. Any one of the above conditions could have resulted in her euthanization at the shelter but for rescue. She was one of the lucky ones to get out of there and be placed in a loving foster home in the south. She was spayed, recovered from kennel cough and had heartworm treatment. But she still needed more medical care including surgery to correct a hernia and luxating patella (a common condition in small dogs). Through it all CeCe maintained her sweet disposition and never showed the pain she must have been feeling. All that is behind CeCe and now she's a healthy happy girl.

CeCe is thought to be a feist/rat terrier mix, most likely with some chihuahua in there. Some would call her a Chirat. She weighs 13-15 lbs and is 2 to 3 years old.

CeCe's foster parents say she's one of the sweetest dogs they've had, a "velcro dog" who loves to be with her people. Her favourite place is cuddled up on a lap, couch or bed. If she's a distance all it takes is one look to get her tail wagging. She's been great with other dogs of all sizes and fine with cats as well.

After all CeCe has been through she deserves a home where she has lots of dedicated love and attention. In return she'll be a most loyal constant companion.

CeCe will be arriving in B.C. in mid September. Applications are being accepted in advance of her arrival.
