Special Happy Ending Thank Yous

The rescue of these precious dogs is only possible because of the dedicated efforts of many people along the way including the shelter manager who is willing to work with rescues to save as many dogs as possible, all the foster families and other volunteers who love and nurture the dogs before sending them north to Mosaic Rescue and of course our extraordinary rescue partner Carrie, of Last Chance Arkansas, who fills so many roles it’s impossible to count.. All of the people involved do what they do to help dogs in need and their biggest reward is knowing that the dogs are now in loving forever homes. In March 2009 Janet of Mosaic Rescue travelled to Little Rock to thank the staff and volunteers there in person. She took stories and photographs that illustrate how much these “mosaics” are loved by their new families and the wonderful lives they now live in British Columbia. The following are excerpts from those messages of grateful adopters.

Bella Noche
Adopted May 2008

I needed a dog that was sociable and gets along well with little children. Bella fits the bill perfectly. She is so gentle with very young children and greets everyone else effusively. Every dog lover that meets her thinks she is delightful and many comment on how pretty she is. Then of course they want to know what breed she is. I tell them she is a spitzspan and most of them nod sagely as though they have heard of that breed at the Westminster Dog Show.
My family thank you for giving us lovely Bella Noche

Belle (Jemma)
Adopted January 2008

We go for a long walk every day, usually to Thetis Lake. Belle's motto is "it's more fun if you're muddy". She ends up looking like she was dipped in a bucket of black ink by the end of the walk. She has the most amazing coat though - once it's dry, the mud just falls off (usually in the car or the house!). She loves to be brushed, and touched, for that matter. She likes to lay on my lap, on her back with her front legs sticking straight up in the air and her head hanging off my lap, fast asleep while I watch TV. I have to stroke her during these sessions, and if I stop, she nudges my hand with her nose.
Belle is my best friend, my saviour, my therapist, my exercise buddy, my little love-bug. I truly can't imagine life without her. She is the most precious thing in my life. There are no words to express my gratitude to you and to her foster family for saving her life and connecting us. Having a Mosaic dog has been the greatest experience. I hope to have more Mosaics in my future.

Benjy (Banjo)
Adopted July 2008

Benjy has been the ray of sunshine in our lives the past year. He has a special relationship with each person in the family and knows just who to go to when he wants something. I am the alpha mommy and the only one he really listens to, but that is OK. He loves his special babies (stuffies) and quivers with joy when I bring him a new one. He keeps them in a basket and spends many a happy hour making them squeak when no-one is free to play with him. He protects our home furiously and has the basenji bark to scare off almost anyone. He also is fantastic at playing fetch and has many squeaky balls that he uses. He especially loves to run up and down the stairs playing it. He is totally sweet boy and we all adore him. I can't imagine what our life would be like without him. Thank you so much for the time, effort, expense and love that you put into rescuing these precious animals.

Brandi
Adopted January 2006

~ If Brandi could talk, this is what we know she would want to say to you. ~
Thank you for taking care of me and giving me a chance to have a new life. You were so kind to me and helped me to recover and begin a new journey. Jean and Dan are grateful to you as well. They love me a lot and tell me that their life is better now that they have me. I love them too. I get lots of hugs, good food and walks with them. They talk to me a lot and include me in most things that they do.

Cooper
Adopted January 2008

Cooper is an absolute joy! He brings happiness to Paul and I and Tia every day. We love him very much! He is very good therapy for my Dad who has Parkinsons disease. My Dad's eyes light up and he has a big smile when Cooper arrives for a visit. For my Mom, Dad's main caregiver, Cooper also brings her happiness and joy, and is a great companion on lonely days taking care of Dad. Cooper loves to visit the grandparents.
Cooper has been with us a year now and we can't imagine life without him. He is so full of energy and love. He loves pats and hugs and just to be with us. He sleeps beside our bed at night on his Winnie the Pooh and Tigger comforter and his little doggie pillow. He surrounds himself with all his toys. I think he is worried someone will take them. Maybe he never had any before. He travels well on our trips in the motorhome. We have a new-to-us cruising boat and will be introducing Cooper to boating this year, with his little doggie life jacket.

Echo
Adopted June 2007

Echo is fantastic. She is very healthy and active. She loved camping and hiking with us all summer and has quickly become my daughter’s best friend. She is WONDERFUL with kids. She has required almost no training, she is a natural pleaser and rarely misbehaves! We take her for daily walks on Dallas Rd. at the dog park. She is very social with other dogs but mostly she loves meeting new people. Every time we have guest to our home, they comment on just how calm and well behaved she is. She is truly a pleasure and a “rare find” in a dog. She is one of the most important members of our family, I don’t know what we‘d do without her! We can’t thank you enough for all that you do!

Ella
Adopted April 2008

She is an absolute joy to us. Ella remains a very high energy, loving gal. We try to take her out for at least an hour long hike up and down the hills of Royal Roads, a beautiful area that I believe she has claimed as her own. She's slim and healthy; bright as a button, curious as a cat and just plain cute. Thank you all for what you do for these precious creatures.

Kelly (Kelsie)
Adopted August 2007

Ten Things I Love About my Dog, Kelly February 2009
1. She loves her stuffed toys, racing around the garden with them, shaking the living daylights out of them. Best of all, a favourite toy can last months, as she doesn’t dismember it and rip the stuffing out, as other, less refined dogs do.
2. When I take her for a walk, she picks up her feet in a prancing gait so even when I’m feeling resentful for being dragged out into miserable weather, I end up glad to be outside and meeting new people who’ve been drawn to her cheerful demeanor.
3. She rests her head on my knee and looks up at me with a gaze that tells me I’m always loved.
4. She barks no more than three times when someone comes to the door.
5. She welcomes my friends with wags and licks so that even if they’re not all that fond of dogs, they’ll make an exception for her.
6. On the occasions she escapes from the backyard, I can find her happily lying in a sunny patch on the front steps.
7. She can play softly with a small child.
8. She’s not a chow-hound, so I can leave crackers and cheese out on the coffee table and turn my back and she won’t grab them, she’ll wait until I leave the room.
9. Her coat colouring is perfect ? her black hairs stand out on light-coloured furniture so I can see where to vacuum and the white hairs stand out on the dark.
10. With my current itinerant life style, she travels beautifully in the back of my car, and welcomes with me, each new adventure that comes our way.
With grateful thanks to Arkansas volunteers,

Kubota (Rita) Adopted April 2007

Kaylee (Ceilidh) Adopted October 2008

I hope you will be able to thank Kaylee and Kubota’s foster family for being
a part of rescuing two amazing dogs. Kaylee is the mischievous one - always
testing to boundaries and full of energy. Kubota is the sweetest dog you
will ever meet - not a mean bone in her body and so keen to please. Kaylee
and Kubota are the best of friends - they do everything together. They are
also my constant companions. They have a great life here - lots of land to
explore - lots of walks in the forest - lots of people to meet but most of
all they get lots of love. We love our "girls" so much and don't know what
we would do without them.
Thank you.

Neville (Gibson)
Adopted January 2009

Well, its hard to believe we've had Neville for a whole month already. Our first obedience class went well. Neville is very bright and picks things up quickly. He's also very calm. The instructor was bringing the more nervous dogs over to him for socialization because Neville would greet them calmly, making it a positive experience for both dogs. We were very proud of him!
It's been so great to see Neville become happier and more comfortable in our home. We see more and more of his "happy face" and less of his "worried face". He has times when he is really silly and playful and just makes us laugh. I think he finally realizes that we love him and he is here to stay. We are really looking forward to spring and summer when we can start taking him hiking! We think he is going to love that!
Our thanks again to you and Neville's foster families for bringing
him to us.

Oscar
Adopted September 2007

The day the Circus Dog came to Town

Oscar was an unplanned addition to our family. With two "mature" dogs, we were not looking to expand our family while Buddy, (our 12 year old lab cross) was still alive. Against all odds, that crazy little terrier somehow managed to enchant us all. Since that first day, he has filled all our lives with challenges, mischief, play, laughter and much love. We could write a book about our circus dog. He does tricks, leaps, entertains, leaps, plays ball, leaps, helps our older dogs to feel younger, and even takes the odd nap. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to Janet, Carrie and all involved in making these kind of love stories possible.

Paddy
Adopted June 2007

How could we ever thank the foster homes enough for our wonderful fur family
member. Our dear dog Paddy is such a sweet, gentle little guy, reserved
but passionate about the walks we have with him each day on the beach. He
keeps us fit and loves to run and play with other doggies his size. We
hate to go away on any vacation without him, so last year we took a car trip for a week so he could accompany us. it was great. Thank you foster parents for making it possible for Paddy to find us.

Reggie
Adopted November 2005

Quite frankly, Reggie is the best thing that happened to me. He is wonderful company. We enjoy lots of walks on Dallas Rd. and when the weather gets warmer, I'll be down at Gonzales Beach with Reggie for early morning walks and Reggie’s swims . He loves the water!!!!
Reggie is often stopped by people passing by and admired, especially for those cute brown spots (or freckles)!! He is truly a loving, friendly, protective, gentle dog.

Siska
Adopted August 2008

Siska has settled in well and we are very much enjoying her. She likes to be around us and jumps on my lap every time I sit down. She likes her cuddles and her food. We are teaching her to play with a ball but it has to be on her terms. This dog likes comfort. She loves coming with me in the car, sits in the front seat and barks at all the dogs we pass. She does not miss much. The snow was an experience but she enjoyed jumping and playing in it. I have been surprised how she has become a focal point in the family. We would not be without her. We are taking her to Tofino with us later this month.

Wilson
Adopted September 2006

Wilson continues to be a wonderful part of our family. I always refer to
them as 'my boys', meaning my two children, my husband and Wilson. This
fall we added some more members into our family - chickens. We raised 6
rare heritage Dorking chicks from one day old and introduced them carefully
to Wilson as they were to be just like more pets for us. Wilson initially
shook and wouldn't come near whomever was holding a wee little chirping
chick, but he eventually grew bold enough to give them a sniff up close. I
think everything in his DNA was telling him to CHASE and EAT the chicken -
but we were holding it - so he was confused!! Now they're his little harem
of chicks - wherever the flock is wandering around the property you'll find
Wilson sitting in the middle of them keeping an eye on them - it's like he's
a sheep dog and they're his sheep - pretty cute! And if a rooster chases a
hen, Wilson will step in to break it up.
Wilson and 'the boys' are having a bonfire in the upper field and roasting
hotdogs and marshmallows right now (yes in February!) and as always they're
together in all they do. (but Wilson's my partner at night for watching tv
on the couch!)
Thanks so much for your part in rescuing all these great dogs - and giving
us and them the chance to love each other!
